Worth the Wait: A Love Story Three Weddings in the Making

You know that saying ... third times a charm?  Well, it turned out to be true for Jake and me.

No - this wasn’t our third marriage, but it would be the third wedding ceremony after the two we planned in Israel that we had to cancel. After 14 beautiful years with my now husband Jake there was no question of whether we’d get married. The question was when.  But even with all that certainty I found myself experiencing “will-he-won’t he” thrill of anticipation during our beautiful Italian vacation.

Location – check. Romance – check. This had to be the moment. So, I did what any normal girl would do … I searched his bag for a ring box. I found absolutely nothing and with only two days of vacation left I began to think maybe I made the whole thing up in my head.

Our hotel held a weekly dinner at a vineyard and we’d both been looking forward to it.  But when the concierge called to arrange transportation Jake seemed to have lost interest. He said maybe we should just stay in but that the final choice was mine. “ Vineyard,” I said. “Definitely Vineyard”. I got my way, but still, I felt a little deflated.

When we pulled up to this stunning property, there was a guitarist playing our favorite songs and sunflowers everywhere. My heart skipped a beat and that’s when Jake got down on one knee, said something beautiful, and pulled out a box.

My heart was soaring … until he opened the box. Not only wasn’t it the ring he knew I wanted, it was … horrific. Obviously, my answer was still yes, but he could see the look on my face. That’s when his smile turned into a laugh and he pulled out the real ring – a gorgeous ASHOKA® diamond set in a beautiful Tubogas yellow gold band inspired by my grandmother’s necklace that I wear every day. My dream ring.

Jake had me for a minute there, but I knew I could trust Eve. I had told her in the past exactly what I wanted, and she worked with Jake closely on every single detail. It’s not your traditional wedding ring. The Tubogas band has a modernist feel, and the ASHOKA® is THE perfect diamond to go with it – architectural ,sleek, and I know I’ll wear it every day. I knew Eve would get it and she did.

Looking back, I think all  the twists and turns in our long road to the chuppah made the third one – the one that happened – feel that much more special.  We were surrounded by love and energy. And, on the plus side, since I chose to wear the same wedding outfits I’d planned for the first two “weddings,” everything was that much more relaxed. I got to focus on the jewelry and chose a gorgeous ASHOKA® bangle bracelet and earrings with that same modernist feel. My ASHOKA® pieces completed every look and made me feel like I was glowing. They’re truly special—and always will be.
