Will You Sail Away with Me? A Firm Anchor, a Surprise Proposal, and the Journey of a Lifetime

Do you believe in true love? We do.

In fact, there’s nothing we love more than a love story, so when Patrick and Sydney shared theirs with us, we decided to share it with you.

Patrick had been in love with Sydney for as long as he could remember. First, they were friends, then friendship turned to romance, then romance grew into the foundation of a life they wanted to build together. “She’s got everything,” Patrick told us. He spoke of her big heart, her keen intelligence, and the beautiful soul he could see right into. And then with a big smile he added “and did I mention she’s the most beautiful woman in the world”? He went on to say that Faith is important to both of them and is another cornerstone of this foundation. Shared beliefs, unity of purpose, complete alignment. Together they’re unstoppable.

It's no coincidence Patrick and Sydney came to William Goldberg  to choose a ring. Patrick had a deep emotional tie to the family. “I knew Eve's son Isaac since I was in college. He was one of my best friends and someone I cherished as a friend for his care for others, his idealism and just the overall joy he exuded,” Patrick said, and continued “Ever since I first went to visit him in New York City … I dreamed of a William Goldberg ring. Believe it or not, I kept a flyer from the company in my backpack for the next 15 years – and guess what – I still have it!”

The couple knew they would choose a diamond from William Goldberg. The big question was which diamond would they choose? Would they immediately recognize “the” diamond? Or would “the” diamond choose them? What happened was a little of both. As soon as Sydney and Patrick stepped into the showroom, they fell head over heels in love with a beautiful oval diamond. It spoke to them, Patrick said, “It was the most perfect diamond we've ever seen. One that when you look at it, you get distracted from what you were saying, and you can’t stop looking.”

Bill Goldberg would have approved. When people asked him to describe the “perfect” diamond he would say, “the perfect diamond is the one that makes you perfectly joyous.”

When the day came, Patrick chose the perfect place to propose – the sailboat that he and Sydney shared so many glorious days on. He felt like the ring in his pocket might set the world on fire. “I was about to explode,” he said. Still, he must have been a very good actor – Sydney had no idea what was about to happen. When she walked to the front of the sailboat she exclaimed, "That's so weird. Someone left a rose on your boat?!"

Patrick can barely contain himself when he shares what happens next. “I grabbed the rose, got down on one knee to pray for us and at the end of the prayer I proposed. She said YES!”

But the magic didn’t end there.  What Sydney hadn’t seen yet was the interior of the boat that Patrick dressed in roses, champagne, a cheese board and “all my love.”

“We stayed on the boat that night dreaming about life,” Patrick says. The dream has become reality, and he grins when he tells us, “Whenever we Face Time, we say, ‘How's the ring?’ and then she shows me and I'm just as distracted as the first time I saw it on her finger.” We joke around sometimes and say, "Yea, we could have put a downpayment on a house... but a house isn't nearly as sparkly!"

So yes, we do believe in true love. We think you should too.
