Elizabeth Taylor

Down the street from William Goldberg Way is Rockefeller Center,  a happening place this time of the year, with all of the excitement surrounding the tree and the store windows. But,this week there is so much more to look forward to! This is the week that Christie’s auctions off all of the Elizabeth Taylor collection. There will be four days of auctions where everyone who is someone will be vying to buy a piece of Liz, some token large or small that belonged to this Hollywood icon.

I went last night to view the entire collection. The jewels are magnificent and the amazing thing is that one woman amassed such a collection. She had the ultimate power over men. She knew how to get men to buy her fabulous jewelry, and not only the men she was married to ,but friends as well.

Each piece has a story. I have said it before, but this really magnifies it for me; there is not an actress today with a collection that would even come close to this. The stars of today are content to borrow, borrow, borrow. They think it’s just great to be able to wear something new every time they go to an event, but they never have a story to tell about the piece. They can barely remember who loaned it to them. Every piece that Liz owned had a story attached to it, who gave it to her, where and why. It’s just fantastic. Young Hollywood stars of today should take a lesson from her!!!

My mother has a wonderful collection of jewelry she has collected over the years, and she decided that each year she would gift us with something from her collection. It is wonderful to receive a gift with meaning, knowing it belonged to my Mother, and I hope I can pass this on to my daughter as well, so she will always have a story to tell about her jewels!
