The Hollywood Foreign Press Association created the Golden Globe awards in 1944, in an effort to recognize those that display excellence in the television and film industry.  For almost 70 years, actors, actresses, and other film personnel have flocked to Los Angeles in January, to see who will be crowned best of the best.  Since 1961 the Golden Globe awards have been held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, and as the third most watched awards show every year, it is broadcasted in more then 150 countries across the planet.   While viewers certainly flock to their televisions to see who will win these coveted awards, they also love the Golden Globes, and other awards shows such as the Emmy’s and the Grammy’s because they long to see the stunning wardrobes and extravagant display of celebrity diamond jewelry.

Celebrity Diamond Jewelry that Stood Out:

This year, the 2011 Golden Globe Awards certainly had some luxury diamond jewelry worth mentioning:

Not only did Jennifer Lopez look white hot in her Zuhair Murad dress at the 2011 Golden Globe awards, but she was sparkling in more than $5 worth of Harry Winston jewelry; the diamond earrings alone were worth $3 million!  She completed her stunning ensemble with Christian Louboutin shoes and a Swarovski silver crystal Kiosque clutch purse.

Catherine Zeta Jones gives a unique elegance to celebrity diamond jewelry.  She wore a voluptuous dark green strapless Monique Lhuillier gown, that created the perfect canvass for her Van Cleef and Arpels “Eliza” diamond drop earrings.  These luxury diamond earrings completed her ensemble, with marquise shape center stones and an elaborate design that almost graced her shoulders.

Actress Helen Mirren wore a remarkable peach colored vintage style gown with delicate crystal beadwork at the shoulders and sleeves.  To compliment her romantic dress, she showcased a spectacular $1.6 million Cartier diamond necklace and subtle diamond drop earrings.

Harkening back to Classical times with a hint of pop, Julianne Moore wore a graceful bright pink Lanvin gown that was held up toga-style by a stunning Bulgari choker with 79 carats of diamonds.

Claire Danes also married the past with the present with a modern peach Calvin Kline dress perfectly balanced with a Fred Leighton gold and diamond cuff bracelet from the 1970s.  Simple earrings finished her ensemble.

Roses and diamonds always make a great pair.  Natalie Portman modeled a fanciful pale pink strapless Viktor and Rolf gown finished with a glistening red rose.  She finished the ensemble with a beautiful Tiffany and Co diamond jewelry necklace.

Apparently turquoise is still a popular addition to celebrity diamond jewelry.  Kyra Sedgwick offset a beautiful yellow-orange Emilio Pucci gown with gold and turquoise earrings; Nicole Kidman wore a simple Fred Leighton broach with three turquoise stones, and Glee’s Lea Michele donned a stunning turquoise and diamond jewelry ring by Lorraine Schwartz Jewelry, which perfectly complimented her cotton candy pink off the shoulder Oscar de la Renta gown.

Emerging Trends in Celebrity Diamond Jewelry

According to JKC, the jewelry industry authority, there are four emerging trends in celebrity diamond jewelry revealed at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards.

-       Smaller stud earrings are preferred so as to set the stage for a dramatic necklace.  This is true in the case of Natalie Portman and her combination of simple stud earrings and a dramatic Tiffany and Co diamond necklace.

-       While there were many bracelets worn, long sleeve gowns were more prevalent than last year, and could be forcing elaborate bracelets to the side.  With long sleeves, simple bracelets are more appropriate.

-       Even though small earrings may be breaking through, earrings must be worn.  Any celebrity without earrings looked unfinished.  While Julianne Moore’s Bulgari choker made a wonderful addition to her look, her lack of earrings make her seemed a little unfinished.

-       Extra jewelry add-ons such as rings (like Lea Michele’s turquoise and diamond ring), broaches (like Nicole Kidman’s turquoise broach), or dazzling hair clips were popular ways to add punch to an ensemble.
